Nickel Allergy

Nickel Allergy

NOTE: Some individuals have an allergic reaction if they touch or consume nickel. Nickel is a naturally occurring element and is common in many products. Nearly all plated faucets manufactured today contain nickel.

Many KOHLER faucets use nickel during the plating process. A nickel substrate is applied before the chrome plating to improve adhesion and longevity of the finish coat.

KOHLER does offer faucets that are not plated and do not have a nickel plated layer on them. Faucets with a finish code of BS or S are products of this type.

KOHLER physical vapor deposition (PVD) finishes are applied over chrome plating.

Even though the nickel plating is covered by other coatings, there is no way to be absolutely certain that direct nickel contact or consumption will not occur.

Consumers with a nickel allergy should consult their physician to discuss the risks and options of using faucets containing nickel.
