Touchless Flush Toilet - Troubleshooting

Random/Ghost/Phantom Flushing

Random/Ghost/Phantom flushing applies if a flush occurs that was not user-actuated or the unit flushed with no external actuation.

Possible Cause: Water from the flush valve splashes on the Touchless Module and/or the underside of the tank lid when the toilet is refilling.

Solution 1:

  • Make sure the refill hose is inserted as far as possible into the flush valve. Reposition the hose to minimize splashing.

Solution 2:

  • If you have a KOHLER toilet with a canister valve, check the color of the canister cap. If you have a black cap (such as retrofitted Wellworth® or Highline®), replace it with the cap in canister repair kit K-GP1229656.

Solution 3:

  • Order chain assembly K-1219268. Hang the chain from the mounting bracket, letting it dangle in the water. This reduces sensor sensitivity to the tank water.

Solution 4:

  • Partially close the water supply stop to slow the refill rate, which will reduce splashing.

Possible Cause: Internal tank condensation drips on the Touchless Module, activating a flush.

NOTE: This is primarily a concern in warmer climates with warmer water supplies.

Solution:

  • Wipe the Touchless Module and underside of the tank lid dry. Make sure the tank lid is completely dry.
  • Install foam pad kit K-1275758 to reduce the amount of condensation under the toilet lid.

Possible Cause: Item(s) on or above the tank lid are triggering the sensor.

  • There are metallic items or items containing moisture within 8" (203 mm) of the sensor. Move or remove all items within 8" (203 mm) of the sensor.

Possible Cause: The Touchless Module is too low and/or the waterline is too high.

NOTE: This occurs mainly in San Souci™ toilet models.

Solution:

  • Raise the bracket on the Touchless Module up one notch (one number lower) on the bracket. Refer to the installation instructions.
  • Verify that the waterline in the tank is not too high. There should be a minimum of 1/2" (13 mm) between the water and the bottom of the Touchless Module. Lower the water level if needed.

Possible Cause: Steam is triggering the sensor.

Solution:

  • If possible, improve ventilation in the room.

Actuator Wheel Does Not Fully Rotate

Possible Cause: Low batteries.

NOTE: The Touchless Module beeps five times before it activates, indicating low batteries.

Solution:

  • Batteries are low. Replace the batteries. Do not use rechargeable batteries.

Repeated Flushing After User Actuation

Possible Cause: When refilling, the water rises too rapidly and activates the sensor.

Solution:

  • Partially close the water supply stop to slow the refill rate (suggested solution for San Souci™ toilets due to its unique flush valve).

Possible Cause: Small or narrow tank.

Solution:

  • Partially close the water supply stop to slow the refill rate (suggested solution for San Souci toilets).

Possible Cause: Water is splashing or dripping on the Touchless Module.

Possible Cause: Internal tank condensation is dripping on the Touchless Module.

Touchless Module Activates Early

Possible Cause: The tank lid rocks or moves when the seat touches it or when the user leans back.

Solution:

  • Install the foam pads (supplied with the Touchless Module) to the tank lid. Install the pads as shown in the installation guide.

Possible Cause: The toilet bowl rocks when in use.

Solution:

  • Shim the bowl to prevent movement.
  • Apply silicone sealant around the base of the bowl to secure it in place.

Possible Cause: Item(s) on or above the tank lid are triggering the sensor.

Solution:

  • Move or remove all items within 8" (203 mm) of the sensor.

Sensor Does Not Actuate Touchless Flush

Possible Cause: The tank cover was installed within 5-10 seconds of the last actuation.

Solution:

  • Remove the tank lid and reinstall a minimum of 15 seconds after the last actuation. Wait at least 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, the module runs the automatic calibration sequence. The issue should resolve itself.

Possible Cause: The Touchless Module is installed too low.

Solution:

  • Raise the module up, one notch at a time, and test the sensor with the tank lid in place. Repeat until the sensor range is 1" (25 mm) to 2" (51 mm) above the tank lid.

Determining If You Need a New Module Box

If you are still experiencing issues with the Touchless Flush, you may need a new module box or new module box lid. The steps below will help you determine if you need a new module box or lid.

  • Remove the toilet tank lid, and unclip the chain link from the module box.
  • Open the module box.

  • Remove the battery holder.
  • Press the metal tabs on the battery holder to the springs on the cover of the module box.

If the actuator wheel rotates:

  • Touchless Flush Toilets: The box is functional, but a new lid is required. Order kit K-1345878 for a lid replacement part.
  • Touchless Flush Conversion Kit (K-1954): The box is functional, but a new lid is required. Order kit K-1345879 for a lid replacement part.

If the actuator wheel does not rotate:

  • Touchless Flush Toilets: A new box and lid are required. For replacement parts, order kits K-1345878 and K-1256315.
  • Touchless Flush Conversion Kit (K-1954): A new box and lid are required. For replacement parts, order kits K-1345879 and K-1256315.

NOTE: Lid parts on your toilet may appear different than the parts in kits K-1345878 and K-1345879. Installation steps are the same unless noted.
