Bath/Whirlpool/Air Bath with Bask™ - Heater Troubleshooting

Overview

Affected Products: Any bath, Proflex whirlpool, NGH/Experience whirlpool, and BubbleMassage bath that is equipped with the Bask heating pad.

Symptom

  • The Bask heater is not producing heat.

Probable Cause

  • The power supply is not functioning properly.
  • The harness is not functioning properly.
  • The user interface is not functioning properly.
  • The heating pad is not functioning properly.

Follow the sections below to determine what is causing the issue.

Before You Begin

WARNING: Risk of electric shock. A qualified electrician should rework any electrical service to the bath, if needed.

WARNING: Risk of electric shock. Disconnect power before servicing.

  • Verify that the bath, whirlpool, or air bath is a KOHLER product.
  • The model number will include a "W" if the product is equipped with the Bask heater.
  • The model number is printed on a label located on or near the blower motor or pump assembly.

1. Check the Power Supply Input Voltage

  • Required input voltage to the power supply varies depending on the product.
  • Baths, BubbleMassage baths, and Proflex whirlpool systems equipped with the Bask heater require 110 VAC.
  • Experience whirlpool systems equipped with the Bask heater require 220 VAC.
  • To confirm voltage requirements for your product, refer to the electrical rating listed on the label located on or near the blower motor or pump assembly.

For 110 VAC Systems:

  • Check that the power supply cord is plugged into the electrical outlet.
  • Check for adequate voltage by plugging in a common household item such as a lamp or radio.

For 220 VAC Systems:

  • Check that the power supply is properly hardwired.
  • To check the voltage, contact a qualified electrician to verify that sufficient power is provided to the power supply.

2. Check the Power Supply Output Cable

  • Verify the correct input voltage is provided to the power supply.
  • Disconnect the black power supply output cable from the harness.
  • Using a DC volt meter, check the output voltage across the pins for the red and black wires in the output cable connector of the power supply.
  • If there is less than 23 VDC, replace the power supply.
  • If there is 23 VDC to 25.5 VDC (with no load), reconnect the power output cable to the harness.

3. Check the Interface Cable

NOTE: Do not disconnect the interface cable from the user interface.

  • The interface cable connector that is attached to the user interface contains a two-wire cable and a four-wire cable.
  • Using a DC volt meter, check the voltage across the pins for the red and black wires coming from the two-wire portion of the interface cable.
  • If there is less than 23 VDC, replace the harness.
  • If there is 23 VDC to 25.5 VDC, the harness is functioning normally.

4. Check the Heating Pad Cable

  • If the output voltage from the power supply is 23 VDC to 25.5 VDC, activate the user interface.

NOTE: Do not disconnect the heater cable from the harness.

  • Using a DC volt meter, check the voltage across the pins for the red and black wires in the heating pad connector.
  • If there is less than 23 VDC, replace the user interface.
  • If there is 23 VDC to 25.5 VDC, replace the heating pad.
